Observe Veterans Day with a Red Silk Poppy.
In honor of our nation’s veterans, we often see people wearing real or symbolic red poppies made of silk around Veteran’s Day which is Wednesday, November 11th.
To help observe this special day, you are encouraged to pick up a red silk poppy at the Johann Fust Community Library starting on Monday, November 2 through Tuesday, November 10. Supplies are limited. The library is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The library will be closed on Wednesday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
A lovely children’s book explaining the origin of this symbolic remembrance that began during World War I based upon the poppies of Flanders Fields will be on display. It is entitled “The Poppy Lady – Moina Belle Michael and Her Tribute to Veterans.” It is written by Barbara Elizabeth Walsh with paintings by Layne Johnson.
