Alice’s Secret Garden is an outdoor reading area accessible only from the Children’s Library, named in honor of Alice Bingham Gorman. Alice served on the Johann Fust Library Foundation Board from 2006 to 2013. She, along with Chris Cowperthwait, played a key role in leading the 2012-2013 library renovation and inviting the Lee County Library System to move into the library spaces to provide library services.
Thanks to a grant from the Boca Grande Woman’s Club, all of the solid walls in “Alice’s Secret Garden” are covered with a beautiful trompe l’oeil mural created by local artist Larry Anderson of Artistic Illusions. The mural features wildlife creatures, children on swings, and lush greenery, inspired by the classic children’s novel The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
