Why I read
I read because it allows me to experience the human drama through different eyes. I also read because I appreciate the writing craft, and I enjoy watching how writers work. I also love talking about books with other book lovers, and being at the library gives me a wonderful opportunity to engage in this pastime.
Reading has served me well during low points in my life. Recently, I participated in an online reading group at APublicSpace.com, facilitated by author Yiyun Li. We read War and Peace at a pace of 16 pages a day, beginning on March 16th and wrapping up on June 7th. At that time, I asked myself whether I would finish War and Peace first or would this saga of covid end first. We all know the answer to that question. In the quiet of my home, I find books to be good company. That is another reason I read.
